Credit Report after the BankruptcyDate: Sunday, December 14, 2003

Thought I'd pass on something that happened to us recently. When
refinancing our home, we found out through the mortgage broker that
three of our discharged accounts were still showing up as LATE on the
credit reports. The companies had the accounts as bankruptcies in
their records, but the credit report agencies (Equifax, etc.) had the
accounts as very, very late (over 3 years!). This has affected our
credit rating score, so we probably didn't have to accept 11% on our
new car loan a couple of years ago! We received 5.87% on our
refinance when the accounts were corrected.
We should have pulled all three agencies credit reports a few months
after the discharge and made sure that all accounts were written as
discharged. Now it is costing us money to get proof and send it to
the agencies, since our bankruptcy records are in storage (it has
been over 3 years).
