You were asking for advice about your car, which you said is paid off.
Sometimes, you can get a secured loan on the value of your car. (I used to work for
a small bank that would do that). You might need to call around. On the other
hand, it might not be a good idea if your car is only worth a thousand or two,
since it wouldn't put much of a dent in 8,800. Plus, it would jeopardize your
car (more than it might be now). Have you thought about getting another
second job? You could probably pay off 8,800 in about a year's time. Also, if you
file for BK, your husband is likely to find out about it. If he finds out about
it when (if) they are towing your car out of the driveway, it might not be a
good way to break the news.
