Nina,
It would be a miracle if you got through an entire bankruptcy without your husband finding out. My advice is to fess up and tell him before he gets wind of it. Chances are you'll get to keep your computer (unless you've recently purchased it and aren't paying on it). If you still owe on the computer, you could reaffirm the loan (sign a new contract) and that would allow you to keep the computer. Or you could skip that and take your chances that they may not repossess it. Nearly all other household possessions are usually exempt. The car depends on if it's in your name, what it's worth and your state's personal bankruptcy excemptions. Do a search on google and you can find your state's exemptions and go to www.edmunds.com to find out your car's worth. If your car is worth more than your state's exemptions, you may have to give it up. If it's not in your name, no worries. They can't take something you don't own.

Hi everyone,

I just joined the group today. I'm considering claiming
bankruptcy, and the only thing I'm afraid of is that they will take
my car or computer. I'm hoping they don't take anything else either
because the rest are really possessions of my husbands. My husband is
not claiming bankruptcy. As a matter of fact he doesn't even know I'm
going to. See I've made 8000.00 worth of bills on credit cards and
firstlines and lost my job, and now I have no way of paying it off.
My husband does not know that I've made this mess and will be more
than furious if I tell him. Does anyone have any advice for me? Does
anyone know if they will take my car or any other possessions? I feel
bad I have to claim bankruptcy, but I don't know what else to do. I
don't even make enough money to do debt consolidation. I cannot ask
my husband for money he will always ask what it is for, and he is
greedy and cheap anyway and alway reluctant to give me money. Please
help.

Thank you,

Nina
